How Do I Love Thee? Let Me Count The Ways....

Well, for starters......

.....I don't think either one of us shaved today.

.....We didn't actually talk to each other until somewhere around lunch time, I believe.

.....We didn't see each other until almost 8 o'clock tonight.

.....We ordered Chinese take out, and sat around the living room table with the boys.

.....We spent what was left of our evening organizing the results of watching 149 boys try out for baseball over the last couple of days, because the draft is tomorrow evening.

.....Coach was in bed by 9:30.

.....Alone.

.....Meanwhile, I stayed up to FINISH organizing and typing up the results of the tryouts and doing Google searches for "Should the NFL keep or toss the Instant Replay?" for a major English paper Jock is doing (and struggling with....hence my helping with it).

Aren't you all overwhelmed by the romanticism of it all?

Ahhh.... but see, here's the beauty of our reality:

I woke up to find a card so beautiful it made me cry, a 2 POUND bar of milk chocolate with almonds, and the goofiest (and therefore, by definition, the absolute MOST ADORABLE) stuffed dog wearing a leather jacket and red bandana on its head.

I didn't have to cook dinner tonight. AND I got to choose where we ordered from.

This was the one night this week that all four of us were home to have dinner together.

Jock let me know (subtly... by sounding remarkably pathetic, actually!) that he is not too old to still be getting Valentines from his mama, as it reminds him how much I love him.

I don't have to share my chocolate with anyone. None of them like almonds! :)

After 15 years, I don't need him to do "flashy" or grand gestures for Valentine's Day. Its honestly enough that he remembers. Before he gets up that morning! It could always be worse....

He could be one of those frantic husbands I see stopping at the corner buying one of the gigantic shrink wrapped baskets full of stuff on his way home, desperately thinking of ways to convince me that he's been storing it in the back of his truck for the last month!

I love how you see the sunny side of things. It sounds like a great Valentine's to me! And the fact that you're surrounded by your loving family makes it the very best.

Karen, I long ago realized that if I was going to be happy in my marriage, I had to look at it realistically and not through Cinderella's sunglasses! I heard a quote once that went something like this: Just because someone doesn't love you the way you think they should doesn't mean they don't love you with all that they are.

That has really helped me keep my relationship with Coach in perspective and on track, and has helped me appreciate all of the men in my life!

It sounds like a wonderful Valentines Day and I love that you don't have to share your chocolate!

I will work on getting the recipe over to you this weekend.

Thanks, Amy! :) (Have I mentioned lately that you rock?)

It all sounds nice.

Now, can you really eat 2 pounds of chocolate?

LBB, yes I can. It might not be all in one sitting, but yes--I can really eat 2 pounds of that particular ambrosia. :)

I didn't shave yesterday, either. And forgot again today! lol Then I was dozing off on the couch by 8:15 after nearly 2 glasses of wine. He was in bed 8:40. Oh we're such partiers! lol But I wouldn't trade my Vday evening for anything! Have a nice weekend.

I feel ahead of the game--I did shave. Not that he noticed, but I did.

Going to bed by 9:30pm is a holiday celebration. No cooking + chocolate = happy mama!

It was a good night for you.

Love that quote you told Karen. I learned long before I married a tunnel visioned engineer that romance was something that needed to be diagrammed in calculus. He just won't get it unless I either do it myself or just tell him how it should be done. Sigh.

So very sweet. :) My Hunny brought home chocolate on Tuesday, thinking that McDonalds love Tuesday meant it was Valentine's Day. I didn't mind a bit as I was studying for my final on Thursday.

Aw, that sounds like a perfect day!

And I love the commenter above that said "can you really eat 2 pounds of chocolate?" I mean, seriously?

Sounds perfect! I'm all for a low key, under the radar type of Valentines Day...

If we do anything at all (which we usually don't) it's to stay in and order a pizza....naked ;)

Sounds a lot like my marriage. It was a great day even if it wasn't "romantic"
