Next Rest Stop.....

.... not for several more days! :)

I've been really bad about keeping up with my blog, and with all of the blogs I read as well, lately. I'll be able to fill everyone in more later, probably next week, but in the meantime, I'll try to at least get in a word or two at night. Things are changing with work, and staying predictably busy at home, but I've discovered that this blog is one of the few sanity savers I've got, so I'm going to make every attempt to immerse myself in it for a bit each day.

For today, I've just got some bits of randomness to share.

So you can see I survived the Thanksgiving holiday. I don't mind admitting it was a close call. We spent pretty much the entire four day weekend at my in-laws house. Which, on most days, is not a bad thing. However, the house felt incredibly over-populated with small creatures. My 2 year old twin nephews. My 6 year old twin nieces. My two dogs. My MIL's two dogs. My two boys. *Although, in fairness, my boys really can't be accused of being small creatures any longer.* I have to admit, somewhat shamefully, that Coach and I were never so glad to be back in our own house, doing our own thing, as we were on Sunday night. There is no random screaming that comes from my boys. When they fight, you can understand what they are saying. They do not pull plants off tables. They do not throw food on the floor. They do not tell me "no" expecting no consequences. (That really is the key there. They do tell me no upon occasion, but realize that they won't get away with it!) And.... this is really important here.... my boys are fully potty trained.

My oldest dog is a little mutt. She's a cross between a Corgi and a Terrier. You know, one of those "she's so ugly she's cute" dogs. Apparently, she hurt herself getting out of my truck when we finally came home for the weekend on Sunday. She's limping around the house. However, since she has been observed to be playing with our other dog quite energetically, I think she's faking it. After all, she's just spent the entire weekend being overlooked in favor of the bigger dogs and the children. And really, she's a bit of an attention whore.

When the family was playing Totally 80's Trivial Pursuit this weekend, I was teamed up with Bug. Who, being less than a decade old, knows absolutely SQUAT about the 80's. However, I usually know quite a bit, which was apparently enough to cause my loving in-laws to decide to handicap my team by putting Bug on it. Anyway, we were moving along quite nicely, when I got stumped by a music question I absolutely should have known. "What girl group sang 'Venus'?" I could hear the song in my head. Even sang a few bars for the family. I could picture the video in my mind. What I could NOT do was name the group. Which was when my darling little Bug, in all his helpfulness, said to me: Well, if you can see the video, try focusing on the words in the bottom left corner. Gotta love the wisdom of that kid.

And finally... the inevitable has happened. I really didn't think it would, since I'm so smart and all, but it did. My teenage son was actually able to teach me something on the computer. Have you all noticed the music playing now when you're reading my blog? See that nifty little play list over on the left, there? Yup. He showed me where to go online, and how to put one of those on my blog.

Cool, huh?

I'm glad you survived the weekend. Sounds like you had a good time despite all the chaos. All those twins! Holy Cow!

Just focus on the words in the bottom right corner...

HAHAHA

What a smart little Bug you have there! Oh, and smart boy too!!!
The second any kid acts like that, ugh. If our little ones ever acted like that, they'd be removed from the 'party' immediately. That's awful!!
We have Totally 80's and it is so fun, but I'll be damned if I didn't get stumped on some of it!!
You should try Scene It.. Girls Vs. Boys... It is sooo fun!
Tonguegasm ;-) Glad you like it. I love that word. You can absolutely fit it into everyday conversation, really. :-)
LOL!

Karen: Yes, the abundance of twins can often be somewhat overwhelming... lol

Rachel: I've actually been looking at getting that particular Scene It version! That, and the ESPN sports one. In my house, it would be REALLY popular!

Lunanik: I know!! I love it! And I can constantly tweak it to include any songs I want! :)

The only reason I survived all the little creatures at my MIL's over the holiday was that we were wise and stayed at a hotel. It's amazing what a few hours away from everybody can do for your psyche. One thing it didn't prevent, however, was my one year old learning really bad habits from her cousins. She's been having a rough couple of days since I have cracked down on the whining and meanness.

Our Lhasa Apso fakes injuries, too! She'll be all limpy, limpy until there's a bone or a trip to the park in the picture. Then she suddenly ungergoes the most miraculous healing process.

Venus is so going to be stuck in my head for the next three days now! Damn that Bananarama! (Isn't that who sings it??)

Oh, and I think Bug just might be a genious. Seriously.

Burgh Baby's Mom, fortunately my in-laws are only about 10 minutes away, so we got to go home each night. There was just a lot of planned family activity over the weekend.

LBB, I have no idea why you can't hear any of the music....?

Cecily... YES! It was Bananarama!!

10 minutes away? I love my husband to death, but I might have to leave him if we lived ten minutes away and I had to deal with some of his family on a more consistent basis. I like my six-hour distance just fine. :-)
