Isn't A Desert Supposed To Be Dry?

Yeah. That's what I thought, too. Apparently, Arizona didn't read the same dictionary I did in elementary school. Or maybe, when translating slang to the weather gods, somehow "Hot as hell" ended up sounding like "Send me a life preserver or some damn arm floaties please!"

Its been raining here. ALL.STINKIN'.DAY. We've gotten over an inch of rain in the last hour alone. Again, if you were to believe your assumptions about the desert, you would think that all this dry land would just soak all this water up, wouldn't you? Well, you'd be wrong. We're under a FLOOD WARNING, people. The only positive aspect of that is it means I MIGHT get to work from home tomorrow. You know, if I can't get out of my neighborhood. Which is a distinct possibility, as every year when the monsoon rains hit we get flooded in. And yes, I know how strange that just sounded. However, working from home would be good, since my dogs are great big babies, and will NOT go out into the rain. Even to potty. The last monsoon season? They wouldn't leave my back porch for THREE DAYS. And we were lucky to even get them out the door onto the porch. Seriously, I fear for the health of their bladders!

And there's not a lot you can do in the rain, either. You can't make "rain men", "rain angels", or "rain balls" to launch out of your "rain fort" at your friends. Trust me when I tell you that singing and dancing in it are just not as much fun as Gene Kelly made it look. Maybe it used to be, but the rain is just so dirty and icky these days, it leaves you feeling gross. And then there's the whole clammy feeling when you finally come inside. Ugh.

Unless, of course, your age happens to fall below teenager. Bug had the best time tonight riding his bike around in the rain, splashing through puddles (more like lakes-in-training!) and just generally getting soaked to the skin. He loved every minute and every drop of it. I even managed to forget, for just a few minutes when I first got home from work, that standing outside with him and playing in the rain would make my hair remarkably difficult to comb through when I got in. Yes, I looked like a shaggy wet dog when I finally got in, but the few minutes of memories I created with my boy were so totally worth it.

Which is a good thing, because there is a 70% chance of rain again tomorrow.

Maybe I should finally learn to swim?

Rain balls....heeeeee!

I heard about your rain. We had some today too. Which is no shock since my windsheild wipers still don't work. BAH!

On the positive side, you don't have to shovel it.

Reminds me of the year we took the kids to Nevada on vacation. Death Valley had standing water on the salt flats. We could, and did, wade in it. People were kayaking on it. Odd.

I was in Arizona once. ONCE.

Landed at 9:30 at night.

It was 103 degrees.

I almost turned into vapor immediately.

The weather forecast for the next day was like:

Mon: 108
Tue: 110
Wed: 107

Next to the Tuesday graphic, the jackass weatherman wrote the word:

HOT!

No shit.

I'm curious, though, asshole...what the Hell is 108?! Warm?!

You people are freaks.

Yes, SM. You people are freaks. :) LOL! But only if the rest of us are.

I wasn't surprised by your rain. What with not living there and all. But all the desert documentaries show monsoon season in deserts. It's a good thing, right?

My dogs won't go out if there's thunder and lightning. In fact, Patches hides in the shower. But plain rain doesn't stop them from frolicking and tracking massive amounts of mud into the house. Count your blessings where you may.

You really should try playing in the rain more often, especially since it comes so infrequently for y'all. It's much fun to do!

That's so weird. I seriously would never think that the desert would flood. Huh...

Did you get buried under ten feet of water, or what? Hello? Are you there?

Ah, the Arizona monsoons. The memories! Your dogs are nuts :)
And the memories with the Bug? So worth the price!
