His New Nemesis

Mom, when's Dad getting home?

Soon, why?

I need him to help me with my tie.

Now, we all know that I'm just a mom, but really? Did we have to wait for dad? I mean, how hard can it be to tie a tie? It looks like one of those over-under-through the loops and pull sort of things. Easy, right?

Um, no. Not so much. And I'm not sure what was the funniest part; Jock trying to tie it, me reading the stupid instructions off the web page that Mr. Google was kind enough to locate for me, the fact I Googled the stupid instructions in the first place (but seriously? over 48 MILLION different web pages for how to tie a tie?!?), or that I felt the need to video it.

Or quite possibly, it was his final comment to me as he got too frustrated to continue and decided to wait for dad after all:

I'm never going to learn to tie this stupid thing. I'll just always have to come home to have Dad do it. On my wedding day, he'll have to come tie it for me.

But at least he's promising to get married some day, so that's a bonus.

*The reason for needing to fight with the stupid tie in the first place? The baseball coach's rules: On game days the team needs to wear slacks, dress shirts and ties.*

**also? I'm having problems with my stupid media player, so I couldn't check the video. So... if it's not nearly as funny as I thought it was at the time? Sorry. I couldn't confirm that before I posted. I have a sneaking suspicion that a certain teenager (possibly his father.... ) was messing around with my computer, and now I'm missing key files. And I will never know which ones they are. Argh!!**

Okay, here's what I think. (I know you're on the edge of your seat just waiting.) That coach is a mo-ron. (Not YOUR Coach, the baseball coach.) A shirt and tie on game day?! Okay, then.

Also? We are so lax around here that nobody wears ties to church even. Becky would not expect one at the wedding. I'm just saying.

Hey - do you need me to make him a shirt with a tie on it like in the store? I totally would.

Run out and buy one of those zipper ties - much easier... until of course his friends notice and then he's the geek of the world... which might not help the marriage prospects so much...

best of luck - and I have to disagree on the shirt/tie thing - nothing quite so handsome as boys looking like they care about their appearance!

He was SOOOO close! Really! If he'd pulled the knot a little smaller before passing the wide end through, he would have been golden. Sooooo close!

I'm a big fan of making kids dress up for game days. It's good prep for "real" life when you sometimes have to dress up for work. Although, I don't think anyone would notice if guys showed up for work wearing a clip-on tie.

The illustrations are what you see in the mirror, so it's easy to follow.

Okay, well it made me laugh...and he really did have it, just needed to tighten it! Go Jock!

he was so close.

way to go trying!

my mom used to have someone tie my brother's ties, and then just slide them on and off. never undoing the knot all the way. it eliminated the need to re-tie it all the time.

He was very close, he just needed to start out with the skinny side way up higher and tighten more as he went along and at the end. (5 brothers, church every Sunday) But, also, they now make zip up ties! Time to go shopping, it is so worth the extra money.
