Who Gave Him Permission To Grow Up?

Who could ever have predicted that when this....

....this little piece of magic, this unbelievable miracle showed up in my life I would find so many of the strangest and most wondrous things to be amazed at 16 years later?

Is it even possible to find the right words to give thanks to God for trusting me with him? And how do you tell a teenager that while you take pride in his scholastic and athletic achievements, what makes you truly proud of HIM is the way he faces challenges, treats people with respect and courtesy, and turns every struggle into a fabulous new adventure?

In the beginning, even though we had Coach, it was very much Jock and I against the world. He was my baby, my strength and my sanity. He was everything I had ever imagined my baby would be, and he is growing up into everything I could ever dream and hope my son to become. He is handsome and friendly; open and caring. He makes friends easily and is fiercely loyal to anyone he cares about. He is sincerely respectful to his elders; curious about his heritage; and proud of his name. He isn't selfish or greedy, but generous and giving. He is quick to smile, showing off his dimples to anyone around; and even quicker to laugh. He finds solutions where others see only problems, and loves unconditionally and completely.

I would not have chosen any other soul to become my son, even if I had been given the chance. And now, on the 16th anniversary of one of the two greatest gifts God has ever given me, I still wouldn't change a single thing about him.

I too wonder why God entrusted me to raise my son. I wouldn't trade him for anything. Even when he disconnects the power from my laptop when it's only running on A/C power.

I love that you love your family sooo stinking much. I love that it comes across so poignantly in your writing. And I love that your kids are so freking good looking! Happy Birthday, Jock. And congrats Mama on doing such a good job of raising your son. God may have blessed you with a good kid, but you certainly figured out how to keep him on the right path.

a number of posts have reflected on kids growing up, its a sad fact of life--but I find each stage enjoyable. I especially enjoy my adult children and doing things with them instead of for them. Here’s my photo story happy Friday!
