As a parent, you face a lot of "firsts" as you go along. First words. First steps. First chin hair. (For your son; although it's totally realistic to count your own, too.) First girlfriend. First serious girlfriend. First, no-I-really-mean-it-this-time serious girlfriend. Have you ever stopped to think, just for a minute, that you really only focus on the firsts that come from your kids?
I didn't. Not until I heard that the daughter of a childhood friend of mine is now expecting a baby. That's when it hit me. I had managed to completely avoid a major parental first.
I am NOT the first of my friends to become a grandma.
That one thought made me smile for HOURS. Seriously. Hours.
Sometimes it truly is the little things in life, isn't it?

I'm hoping to stave off THAT first for another 7-10 years thank you very much.
and I'm not going to comment on MY first chin hair... because what was once a sexy beauty mark is now the bane of my existence... bleh.
I am so with you on this one!! We hopefully won't be grandparents for at least another 5, maybe 10 years!
That's a big one to dodge, too!
Oh man! Give me another five years at least and I'll be a happy woman!
I'm going to go out and make a WHOLE lot of friends now. Friends who have teens. Preferrably friends who don't really monitor their kids well.
