*Presidential hopefuls, too!*
Ronald Regan. Regis Philbin. John McCain. Johnny Carson.
Jock and I were watching TV the other day (although, if you have a Testosterone Representative in your household, you know that "watching" is really a euphemism for "flipping through the channels", right?), and came across Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? on the tube. The current version, with Meredith Vierra. Jock stops the surfing, looks at me, and asks:
What happened to Ronald Regan?
I just looked at him for a minute, waiting for it to sink in. The former President? I asked.
No. That old guy that used to do this show.
OH!!! Regis Philbin, I corrected.
Huh? Oh yeah, him. Same difference.
Really? Who do you think would be more upset by that comparison? Regis, for being identified with an old, dead guy? Or President Regan, for being thought of as the "same difference" as Regis?
Coach and I were watching TV the next day (again, see above for what I mean by "watching"), and came across a news clip on Senator John McCain. I don't remember where he was, or what he said, but Coach started laughing. When asked, he said
He looks like that one comedian. You know...that one that had his own show for so long.
(um, yeah. Crystal clear on just who that was. Don't you agree? Sheesh.)
Me: Um.... give me a clue here, babe. Which comedian? Seems a bunch of them have had their own show.
Coach: The old one, that used to do all those funny skits.
Its truly a testament to how connected I am to this man, that I was able to figure out where he was going with this.
Me: Johnny Carson?
Coach: Yeah! That expression on McCain's face there totally reminded me of one of his skits!
Again, who do you think would be more offended? Actually, on this one I think they'd both be ok with it. At least there is a passing resemblance!
Although.... since I haven't heard anything about Obama or Hillary, do you think maybe its just a Republican thing?
