Rocky Mountain Memories And Desert Daydreams

Our little team has lived here in the desert now for three years. Actually, three years at the end of this month. We've discovered many things to love (ok, so "love" might be too strong a word sometimes...namely anytime between oh--April and October, as those are the times when we feel like we're hanging out in Hell's back yard) about Arizona. About Arizona weather.

The sunsets here can be spectacular. We're not called the Valley of The Sun for nothing! Like fire stretching across the horizon, over the palm trees. Breathtaking.

Or rainbows after the cleansing monsoon rains. Imagine being ten years old and still trying to believe in leprechauns, and the pot o' gold at the end. And if you're fortunate enough to find it, dancing with your arms spread wide and your head thrown back through the beautiful, brilliant colors.

But as much as we've come to call the Arizona desert home, I still miss certain things about growing up in Colorado. Bundling up in layers. Mittens and ear muffs. Snowball fights with my brothers and the other kids that lived in our cul-de-sac. Getting snowed in and discovering things we liked about each other. Getting snowed in and discovering ways we liked to irritate each other.

There is nothing quite like the Colorado snow.

So what needs to happen is that you need to visit ME in the winter to get your snow fix. RIght?? That's totally logical!!!

I always say I'd move to a desert climate in a heartbeat, but really...I'm a liar.

The feeling of the cold air in your lungs after a fresh snowfall is probably one of the most refreshing things on the planet.

Oh and snowball fights.

THIS.IS.AWESOME. Being from the same place and then moving to the same place and then moving to some place that just injected water into the air... I so dig this post. And I dig my lack of grammatical skills. :)

I don't know. I'm a happy medium. I don't think I'd like the dessert but at the same time that's too much snow for me. :) Although it does come in useful at times. Who needs coolers of ice?!

I love the drinks in the snow. My dad used to do that when we went snow skiing. He would find a spot near our tail game and shove all our beverages into the snow. Since it was the 1980's no one touched our stash. It was always there at lunch time, slushy soda.

I'm sure it's a case of "the grass is always greener", but I would love to live somewhere that's warm (hot!) all year round. I've never lived west of Chicago. I really don't like having everything in my closet from tank tops to turtle necks and shorts to thermals. The winter and spring coats are on the hooks all year round. I would like to once, just once, live in a place where I can wear summer clothes all year.

If I had a house in Hell and a house in Arizona, I'd rent out the house in Arizona and live in Hell. Way too hot.
But there's something about the desert that is starkly beautiful isn't there?
But, I don't blame you for missing the seasons of Colorado.
Beautiful pictures.

I love having the four seasons, but I would looove for the snow to come in December for the holidays and then have 70 degree weather starting in February.

Having the "outdoor drink cooler" is the best thing about winter.

Wow...those pictures were almost as beautiful as the words accompanying them...I loved the bit about the rainbows and pots of gold.

Oh, and I love those kinds of beer coolers!

You miss the layering and snow? Really? I love to visit it - maybe once every three years. Just to say you've played with it. And, then I'm so glad I live here & we never get it.

now that's a VERY efficient way to keep beer cool!

Winter always offers extra space in the fridge. Just in time for Thanksgiving, Christmas and NYE. It's quite the God-send. LOL!
