On This Date.....

.....in 1959, Barbie made her debut.

.....in 1938, Bob Hope made his film debut in The Big Broadcast of 1938.

.....in 1995, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays became Major League Baseball's newest team.

.....in 1993, the Pittsburgh Penguins began an NHL record 17-game winning streak.

.....in 1976, the first female cadets were accepted into West Point Military Academy.

.....in 1964, the first Ford Mustang was produced.

.....in 1953, Josef Stalin was buried in Moscow.

.....in 1967, his daughter, Svetlana, defected to the West.

.....in 1882, false teeth were patented.

.....in 1873, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police were founded.

.....in 1839, the Prussian government limited the work week for children to 51 hours.

.....in 1562, kissing in public was banned in Naples, and punishable by death.

.....in 1934, the first human in space, Yuri Gagarin, was born.

.....in 1961, the first known radar contact with Venus was made.

And finally, on this date in 1973....

The Sports Mama was born.

I might not ever be the hit that Barbie turned out to be; as famous as Bob Hope; as sought after as the Ford Mustang; or as useful as false teeth....

But I'm pretty certain that kissing me in public isn't punishable by death.

At least, not in Arizona. Not any longer.
