Heaven Help Me, I Still Remember How To Peg My Jeans

Raise your hand if you remember the dances you went to in Junior High or Middle School. C'mon, don't be shy. I know I'm not the only one. The dark gymnasium. The tables in along the bleachers where there were snacks, drinks and the poor teachers who got suckered....er, volunteered as chaperones. The boys at one end, dressed in their coolest jean jackets with the collars popped up; the girls at the other, with those oh-so-cool mini-skirts and leggings. Billy Idol's "Mony Mony" playing so loud you couldn't hear a thing, except when everyone sang along with the chorus. (And added in those "extra" chorus within a chorus lines!) Ahh.... now you can see it all, right? It was 1980-something.

That scene? Is not just something I experienced 20 plus years ago. No. It's also something Bug got to experience tonight. The boys were in jeans and shirts with popped up collars; the girls were wearing mini-skirts and leggings. And according to Bug, some of the girls were even wearing "those leg heater things".

When I was his age, it was just a dance. Tonight, it was an 80's Revival.

Revival, people. As one of my friends from high school asked, Is it sad that we're now old enough that our memories have become a Theme for our kids?
Although I suppose it's a good thing that it's not an actual comeback. Those leg heaters would be uncomfortable here in the desert.

Oh it's worse when something '80 is considered "vintage"! GAH! My other vivid memory from the Jr. High dance in the '80's are the slow songs like "Babe" by Styx - "Babe, I'm leaving, I must be on my way, the time is drawing near...".

Oh my gosh...

Too funny.

Me!! *raising hand* I remember. And just between you and me, I LOVED the 80's...still do. What I wouldn't give for a pair of flourescent pink socks right now....

I see the revival of the styles in the stores and just cringe. Partly because, as you said, we're now old enough that our generation is being revived, and partly because those things were never a good look the first go-round.

No. I won't be wearing ties and vests and hot pink glitter.

Those leg heater things? That's HILARIOUS! I still remember my first pair of leg warmers. And I LOVED the dances! Standing around, watching people be stupid. Awesome.

Awww, he's such a CUTE 80s boy!

I bought into and wore just about every 80's trend there was. Pegged jeans, HUGE hair, hypercolor shirts, elecric blue mascara...check, check, check and check. Good times, good times.

It sucks to be reminded of how old we are getting. Pretty soon we'll be considered a classic though, right?

If you'd like to stop by my blog I'm at Cake Crumbs.

The 80's are slowly creeping more and more back into fashion, and most of it, as much as I loved it the first time around, I cannot bring myself to relive in my wardrobe. But leg warmers??? I've been waiting for them ever since they left. In Utah, they're wonderful.

I just saw leg warmers in Claires yesterday when getting my daughter earrings. Tons of them. I think they are back.

Cute story. I loved the 80's. :)
